Slow ART
Welcome to Idealog Weekly, the free email newsletter for New Zealand commercial creatives, entrepreneurs and anyone rich with ideas
Slow ART
Sometimes, it pays to go slow. This is what the ART venturists found energised their creativity the most. Read about how the ART Venture helps Auckland’s creative economy move forward and helping them to realise an export-oriented future.
Al (Shock) Gore
Gore by name gory by message, the former next president of the USA continues his slideshows at the last TED. If you are still entertaining sceptical thoughts then check this out—and tell us, what part of the melting Arctic don’t you get?
The Trons rock out
Taking electronic music to its logical conclusion, the Hammyhole way. Sounds good actually. Still wish they’d build a bypass around the place (and Huntly). (Via Wired)
We had Ignition
Speaking of Hamilton, the Ignition Fringe Festival ends on Saturday, with a Finale. That’s like the last thing you know. Maybe you should go to it?
Farm-scaping
Humans do it, so why not cattle? Introducing the latest in chic, urban apartments for cows, sheep and other biological life. As land gets pricey, farming the sky looks attractive for a new type of farm.
You can’t do this with MP3s
It is pleasing to see that the lost art of err, cover art is kept alive by the Internet. Schramm and Schock; The Oscar Volk Orchestra; Barrel Fingers Barry; Sir Eugene Goossens and the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra: their art would be dead and gone had it not been for Flickr.
The comic of menace
Hilarious Harold Pintering it black backwards. We’re looking forward to the twisted love triangle told in reverse. Memento-style, it starts tonight at Auckland’s Herald Theatre where the Silo troupe has returned to. Pinter’s play played out in real life based on seven years affair he had with Joan Bakewell, the wife of his best friend.

Speaking of Bakewell
Or not. But there’s some hot wholemeal buns there.
Time flies like the wind …
… and fruit flies like banana. That’s an old saying, but it illustrates the qualities of Alexey Titarenko’s time-lapse photography rather nicely. (Via JWZ)
Quote of the week
“The purpose of the road works was to make the road smoother, safer and, as a result, faster”
—ART Venturer Philip Patston looking forward to a less bumpy wheelchair ride.
