Taxi!!!
It’s all about imagining things, Gena Tuffery learns as she wings her way to Paris with four University of Canterbury students who have devised a traffic-woe-curing masterplan. In the French capital, our Cantabrians competed against students from 60 other nations; they may not have brought home their target, the Imagination Cup, but they have cured Gena’s cynicism in the process. Read about their Gena-changing trip on our website.
That went as well could be expected, didn’t it?
DDB London’s poster campaign for Harvey Nicks’ opening in Bristol features the city’s two famous sons, Wallace and Gromit, as the models. It’s a brilliant campaign, but are the two really more famous than, say, Banksy, John Logan, Nik Kershaw or Cabot? And then there’s the question of cheese: NO CHEESE???
The makers have also posted a YouTube vid on the making of the campaign. Skip the corporate spiel in the first 90 seconds.
Easy greasy
You want us to believe there was *no* CGI or tricky filming involved in making this commercial? Naaahhh …
Hmm. Turns out they didn’t cheat … instead, they took the brute force approach: just wait for things to miraculously go right.
One man had the power
You may not have heard his name but you’re most likely heard Don LaFontaine’s voice at the cinema. No more, however; LaFontaine died this week, and movie trailers will never be the same.
Michael’s the Mann
Why try to pitch something when you can pretend to entertain? Mercedes-Benz’s el-fako movie trailer was shot by Hollywood marquee director Michael Mann, has star actors like Benicio del Toro and cost a fortune to make … but it didn’t work. Audiences just don’t like to be duped.
Tee finder
Find yourself visited a dozen t-shirt stores just to find that special tee? Wander aimlessly no more: Please Dress Me is a search engine just for t-shirts. Finally, a website that actually increases your productivity.

Made in Kiwiland
We wouldn’t recommend GetNZMade if there wasn’t some cool stuff there—but there is. Who doesn’t need a snapper weathervane for example, or a blue solar light cap?

Quote of the week
“The perception about people in IT is that it’s full of geeks and not very social. I’ve found it’s the exact opposite … I feel like I’ve found my place in the world.”
—Christchurch’s Janina Voigt tells French high school students about the social upside of high-tech
