Well, it’s been fun, but like all good things the Idealog Guide must come to an end. Seeing is feeling
A British soldier who was blinded by a grenade is trialling new technology that allows him to “see” with his tongue. The BrainPort, which is being developed by the US military, works using a tiny video camera attached to a pair of sunglasses which convert images into electrical impulses. They’re then transmitted to sensors on his tongue (the lighter the pixels, the stronger the impulse), and by learning to interpret the signals, he can visualise the objects around him. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NX4S9jRJuLc

Quote of the week
“If you are thinking of doing this for fun, try sport. It’s a lot less effort, it’s better for your health and wellbeing, and unless you go really crazy on lycra and carbon fibre, it is less likely to bankrupt you.”
— Andy Kenworthy warns that there are easier ways to turn a dollar than starting up a business
