You might notice things looking a little different around here next week. In our new issue, a redesign; online, a total overhaul, including the introduction of a daily news service. Now five years old—and last night named MPA business magazine for the fifth time in a row—we’ll continue to cover the innovators, entrepreneurs and startups we always have, but as many of those have grown and entered the mainstream, we’ll also be tackling the larger issues. We couldn’t let a momentous occasion pass without a bit of fanfare, so to mark this new phase on the Idealog journey we’re hosting a special business breakfast on the big day, June 29, with key speaker Sam Morgan. From TradeMe to Pacific Fibre and now to South American farming, he’s a fine example of our ethos and will be discussing his latest venture: investing in a Brazilian dairy brand. Bonus: If you’d like to be there too (7.30am at the Pullman Hotel in Auckland) we’ve got 10 tickets to give away. Email claire@idealog.co.nz with your name and company details by Monday.

Who doesn’t love a good success story? Invivo Wines (profiled in Idealog earlier this year) was named emerging exporter of the year at the Air NZ Cargo Export Awards last week. Cofounder and winemaker Rob Cameron said delivering a quality product and clever marketing were key to succeeding despite launching in a tough economic climate, and convenor of judges, Hugh Cronwright, said Kiwi exporters were battling on and continuing to innovate “against remarkable competition”. Other winners on the night included EasiYo (exporter of the year, under $35m); Sistema Plastics (exporter of the year, over $35m); BCS Group (deal of the year); Academic Colleges Group (exporter of the year) and Rakon (supreme award winner). To celebrate, we’ve got two Invivo prize packs to give away, with a bottle of their Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc 2010 plus the brand new Central Otago Pinot Noir. Email editor@idealog.co.nz, let us know where your favourite place to enjoy a vino is, and they could be coming your way.

Earlier this year Michael Parekowhai was invited by Creative New Zealand to represent Aotearoa at the 2011 Venice Biennale. On first looking into Chapman’s Homer, his sculptural installation, features two grand pianos supporting cast bronze bulls, a Steinway concert piano, a figure from the Kapa Haka series and a small bronze olive tree sapling. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7piDDdJcRJE

Quote of the week
“If you’d asked me a year ago if would I cook frozen, freshwater salmon, I’d have said no. If you’d asked whether I’d invest in it, I’d have laughed.” - Scott Murray on buying into a most unlikely venture
