Criticise executive salaries all you like: company directors are enjoying higher pay because they face ever-increasing levels of accountability, says one consultancy. The latest survey of directors’ fees by Strategic Pay Ltd shows the fees paid to
directors have increased by 4.9 percent between 2009 and 2011. Managing director John McGill said despite slow economic growth, directors were shouldering more responsibility and this was being reflected in their remuneration.

One New Zealand beverage company is proving a hit
across the Tasman, recording higher sales in Australia than at home – and is on the verge of going truly global. Ti Tonics, which launched its range of premium iced teas last June, has just signed an agreement that will see it expanding into North and South America. It’s also fielding interest from distributors in the Middle East and Asia.

cities will be mapped by a government research project collecting
information for councils and industry organisations over the next four
years. Landcare Research is leading the programme, which will track our changing use of land and resulting pressure on water, soil and biodiversity. It builds on the Ministry for the
Environment’s Land Use and Carbon Analysis System (LUCAS), developed to
report New Zealand’s carbon emissions to the United Nations.

A new tool will help “breathe new life” into
hospitality by enabling businesses to measure their performance against
industry standards, say those close to the sector. Last week marked the launch of Hospro, an online benchmarking tool designed to help
small businesses improve productivity and profitability. The project, the culmination of five years’ work, is already being used by 2000 operators.

Thousands of cryogenics research projects around the world will soon be
using Kiwi technology now that New Zealand’s Jade Software has signed
MMR Technologies as a partner. As with most software companies, the US market is one of increasing importance for Jade, according to managing director Craig Richardson, and the deal will see its product being used “in the most demanding of environments”.
