Telecom has posted a modest 1.6 percent profit for the year, along with
the announcement that it lost 95,000 mobile customers as it moves to
shut down the old CDMA network. Its full-year net earnings increased by $6 million to $388 million –
excluding a number of adjustments such as $29m of UFB and demerger costs, $42m of
earthquake-related costs and asset impairments of $257 million.

When it comes to the government and the Green Party, it’s not a common occurrence to see the two
agreeing on environmental policy. But a proposal put forward by
environment minister Nick Smith yesterday to move national environmental
reporting to the independent Parliamentary Commissioner for the Environment
(PCE) seems to have struck a harmonious chord with the Greens.

Hewlett-Packard is stepping back from the consumer
market, discontinuing its line of webOS devices – specifically, phones
and its TouchPad – and announcing a possible separation of its
Personal Systems Group (PSG) from the company. It is also in acquisition talks with UK enterprise software company
Autonomy, which it said was part of a plan to fundamentally transform HP
to focus on business and public sector customers.
