Kiwis out to revolutionise research with online science marketplace

Two Kiwis are behind what has been dubbed an ‘eBay for science’, a marketplace that connects scientists to other institutions with the equipment and means to carry out experiments that their own universities lack. Founder Elizabeth Iorns said Science Exchange, which is funded by angel investors and US accelerator Ycombinator, aims to revolutionise science research by making it easy and efficient to access core resources across academic institutions.

Businesses chipper about the year ahead

The economic recovery is picking up pace despite ongoing global jitters, as evidenced by a host of recent confidence surveys. The monthly BNZ Confidence Survey revealed a sizeable lift in confidence about the state of the economy in a year’s time, with a net 36 percent of respondents expecting the economy to be in better shape in a year’s time, while Business NZ’s September planning forecast pointed to a similarly chipper outlook.

Kathmandu treks the re-brand trail

A major rebrand of Kathmandu – a year in the making – is the result of a thorough investigation into the strengths of the entire brand, according to managing director Peter Halkett. With a little help from Strategy Design & Advertising, the outdoors company is rolling out a new look this month; gone is the green, yellow and red-framed logo with numerous peaks, replaced with a block-lettered logo featuring two geometric mountain-like shapes.
