Trade sales up for seventh quarter in a row

Wholesale trade sales were up again in the June quarter for the seventh consecutive time, Statistics New Zealand said today. After adjusting for seasonal effects, total sales rose 2.2 percent to $20.7 billion. The bulk of the increase came from the ’other goods wholesaling’ industry, which rose 9.8 percent or $316 million.

Rotorua to host global biotech conference

The world’s top international agricultural biotechnology conference is heading to New Zealand in 2012, putting the spotlight on environmental, social, and economic change under the umbrella theme ‘Adapting to a Changing World’. NZBIO chair Maxine Simmons said securing hosting rights was a huge coup and offered the opportunity to advance agbiotech in this part of the world. “New Zealand is an acknowledged leader in biological science. The application of this expertise supports, and adds tremendous value to, our primary industries.”

Innovative environmental packaging solutions showcased at industry awards

Every New Zealander consumes about 36 kg of plastic packaging per year, with only 8.64 kg of that being recycled. The bi-annual Environmental Packaging Awards seek to spin a positive light on packaging, by celebrating companies and individuals who champion environmental issues and packaging product stewardship. Among this year’s winners were Resene’s Karen Warman for her innovative Paintwise programme and a corrugated box design by a Massey University student.

Entries called for as RSVP & Nexus Awards open for another year

The 2011 RSVP and Nexus Awards have officially opened for business, and marketing gurus are once again being encouraged to showcase shining examples of the campaigns and projects they’ve created that stimulate a conversation, ask for a response, prompt some deeper brand involvement and lead to a sale, lead or other measurable change in behaviour. The gongs  are broken down into three main categories: RSVP Awards, which recognise outstanding marketing campaigns; RSVP Craft Awards, which celebrate the ‘art’ of a campaign’s individual elements; and Nexus Awards, which recognise excellence in creating the foundations on which measurable campaigns are based.
