Micro algae, wood waste, bagasse and other
green municipal waste is to be put to good use thanks to Kiwi company Aquaflow.
The company has announced it is partnering with Energy Parks Australia to
develop infrastructure for energy parks to produce next generation biofuels
from multi biomass sources.

Deals worth as much as $150 million are already in the pipeline for some Auckland businesses following the Rugby World Cup. Auckland Tourism, Events and Economic Development aimed to use RWC 2011
to make international business connections and showcase investment
opportunities in Auckland, and ATEED business and sector development
general manager Clyde Rogers said it was encouraging to see some
significant negotiations already on the table.

News that Australian company DesignCrowd had
launched in New Zealand didn’t go down too well with our readers a few weeks
back. But its presence in the Kiwi market and beyond has been given a booster
by way of a $3 million investment from Australian VC firm Starfish Ventures.
DesignCrowd chief executive Alec Lynch said the money would be used to enhance
the company’s service in Australia, New Zealand and beyond. And after a chat on
the phone, he was also quick to defend crowdsourcing, describing it as an
“opportunity, not a threat” to existing design agencies.

Johanna Hertwich, 16, from rural Murchison in the South Island, has
taken the Supreme Award at the inaugural Inspiring Stories Film
Competition. Her winning film was based on a friend who had been through a rough time, and followed her story of getting back on the rails. The
competition was part of the first-ever Festival for the Future, held in
Wellington over the weekend.
