More funding will be injected into the science
sector to transform Industrial Research Limited (IRL) into an advanced
technology institute, Prime Minister John Key announced yesterday. Over
the next five years, an additional $120 million and $150 million will
be invested in IRL to see it become a high-tech headquarters for New Zealand.

Google’s going indoors – one of its latest
features lets members of the public view the interiors of businesses
found on Google Maps. Shops in Auckland, Wellington, Christchurch,
Dunedin, Invercargill, Blenheim and
Nelson, as well as Australia, Japan, the US, London and Paris, had the
option of inviting Street View photographers inside to snap photos to
enhance their listings.

Health and beauty company Comvita has bought Te
Awamutu-based apiary Waikato Honey Products to increase its supply of
manuka honey. Comvita chief executive Brett Hewlett said the business would provide
it with additional supply of both pasture and manuka honey and would be
incorporated into the existing Kiwi Bee Apiary business.

Capitalising on the mobile and online movement,
Reachmedia has released the next version of its catalogue viewing
platform, which effectively takes catalogues, resizes them and publishes
them in a Facebook environment and on mobile apps. In
addition, parent company Lasoo
recently added a daily deals department that collates a host of
available offers from the likes of Groupy, GrabOne and Cudo and also
moved its content to HTML5 to enable cross platform social and mobile applications.

TVNZ is out to reproduce the success of interactive, digital
Emmy award-winning, Ondemand-only show Reservoir Hill with a follow-up
along similar lines: a new spoof comedy show called Auckland Daze. With the tagline “4 male wannabes, 4 supersized egos, 4 your entertainment”, he
series follows a model, a stuntman, a dwarf entertainer and a stand-up
comedian trying to make it in Auckland’s ridiculously small
entertainment industry.
