Local startup uSnap.us, which provides a mobile and web application for
guest-sourcing wedding photos, has been crowned winner at Startup
Weekend Wellington. And according to judge Mike DelPrete, it’s a great example of a business that “could turn into a multi-million dollar venture pretty quickly.”

Dunedin-based Pacific
Edge has added to its suite of patents with new ones
issued in Europe, Australia, and New Zealand for its technology for the detection of gastric
cancer. The biomedical company raised NZ$20
million in September for the
commercialisation of its bladder cancer detection test,
Cxbladder, which has now entered the market in New Zealand and Australia and is slated to launch in Spain shortly.

Jetstar and Tourism New Zealand have signed a $9
million marketing deal in a push to attract more international visitors
from Australia, Singapore, Japan and across the Asia region. It
marks the single largest push ever undertaken by Jetstar in the New
Zealand market, combining the airline’s low fares with Tourism NZ’s
strong destination branding in the 100% Pure campaign.

Matua Valley Wines founder Maureen Maxwell is on a
mission to foster stronger links between New Zealand’s bee and honey
industry and the rest of the world. She has been appointed to the newly-created role of regional president for
the Oceania Commission of Apimondia, the Rome-based international
federation of beekeeping associations – and is the first New Zealander
to be part of the group.

New Zealand has the second highest rate of depression in the
developed world, and in spite of successful marketing campaigns to help
cure it, more than 73 percent of sufferers don’t seek medical help. Auckland
advertising agency DraftFCB set out to change that by offering an
alternative to overcome the obstacles to accessing traditional
treatment: an online solution called The Journal.

It doesn’t get much more Kiwi than Cookie Time, and for the first time
rural New Zealanders will be able to buy theirs online this year. Cookie Time will also have a pop-up cookie counter for six weeks
pre-Christmas at Sylvia Park, where shoppers can get their fix of the
new cranberry and white chocolate Christmas cookie.
