A Crown Research Institute is set to play a part in creating a science and innovation portal in Singapore. Industrial
Research Ltd (IRL) is launching a partnership with the Queensland
government and the Mercator Alliance Ltd with a view to developing a
Singapore portal to showcase emerging New Zealand and Queensland
technologies in the energy and environmental sectors, and encourage
collaborative research between organisations in the three countries

Tait Radio Communications has struck export success in South America after securing two big deals in Brazil. Military
police patrolling the Brazilian state of Parana purchased hi-tech
digital mobile radios designed and built by Christchurch-based Tait to
use in their vehicles in the fight against organised crime. Brazil’s
Sao Paulo civil police also recently spent US$4 million upgrading its
existing Tait P25 network to a trunking (computer-controlled) operation.

Air New Zealand has lifted the hood on the world’s largest commercially operated
aircraft to be painted completely black. All Blacks Kieran Read and Andy Ellis led the one-of-a-kind 777-300ER out of Boeing’s paint hangar facility in Seattle on Friday
night. According to Boeing, painting the aircraft
took just over a week, two days longer than it normally
takes to paint a 777.

New Zealand’s small think tank sector is
contracting further with the consolidation of the New Zealand Business
Roundtable and the New Zealand Institute. While one might think the two organisations hail from
different ends of the spectrum, the chairmen insist they share common
missions. The merger is to take effect from April 1 and the new, as-yet-unnamed
organisation is undertaking an international search for an executive director.
