Independent Liquor says more than 100 bars and
restaurants have signed up to its new tap beer option, indicating the
industry’s thirst for choice. The first kegs are rolling out this week, bringing brands including Carlsberg and Kingfisher on tap for the first time. And Independent Liquor chief executive Julian Davidson is confident demand will continue to grow.

The government must give the New Zealand Venture
Investment Fund room to grow if it is to survive, says the head of the
national venture capital association. The New Zealand Private
Equity and Venture Capital Association (NZVCA) has released a list of
recommendations urging the government to amend policy to ensure the
venture capital market
survives in the short term and remains fit for purpose in the long
term. It’s calling for tax incentives for
investment in venture capital funds and encouraging NZ Super and KiwiSaver providers toward
investing in local venture capital.

New Zealand needs a single regulator of all news media “independent of both government and the news industry”. That’s one of the proposals in the Law Commission’s latest issue paper News Media Meets New Media,
which outlines standards and accountabilities it believes should apply
to the news media and citizen publishers in the digital age. This regulator would govern all speech and communication, irrespective of the medium or who is communicating.

city of Wellington has been approved by the mayor and members of the
city council. There are four main strategies to be implemented in the economic
proposal, created in response to the global recession, the downsizing of
Wellington’s public centre and the general lack of attention given to

The future of hundreds of employees and the London route of Air New Zealand is up in the air. The airline is losing $1 million a week on its long-haul network, and according to a letter to staff obtained by the Dominion Post, Air NZ chief executive Rob Fyfe said the company had to be prepared to make some “tough choices”.

Telecom is officially on the hunt for a new CEO. Current
chief executive Paul Reynolds signalled in August that he intended to
step down once Telecom was successfully established as an independent
