Colenso BBDO Auckland has been picked as the fifth best agency in the world on this year’s Big Won list by Directory. It was also named the world’s best direct agency, with
DraftFCB hot on its heels as the runnerup. Colenso’s Nick Worthington was crowned best executive creative director, and James
Hurman the second-best planner.

Consumer complaints about daily deal websites have halved, according to the Commerce Commission. The regulator
initially approached 20 to 30 of the larger daily deal sites at the
beginning of the year regarding complaints made by consumers with an eye
to re-educating them about consumer law. And the number of complaints across 85 deal websites per month fell to 10
in October and November from an average of 22 complaints between January
and June, the commission said.

Christchurch may not be able to catch a break of
late, but there’s a new, if small, Red Cross grant to help
earthquake-affected businesses get back on their feet. The $750
Independent Advice for Small Business grant will enable small and
family-run businesses to access professional legal and
accounting advice in relation to the effect of earthquakes
on their company.

Vodafone has stolen the lead in DSL browsing
speed, marking a turnaround in fortune from slowest provider in the
country to the fastest. Broadband
monitoring company Truenet showed Vodafone topped the charts followed by Slingshot, Orcon and Telecom, with all four ISPs
taking between 0.4 and 0.5 seconds to download a test page. The best performer overall, however, remains TelstraClear’s cable service.

Employment confidence has sunk to its lowest
levels since June 2009, according to the latest Westpac McDermott Miller
Employment Confidence index. The index fell to 99.6 points on the back of global economic uncertainty, dropping everywhere except for Otago and Southland. It was a similar picture in the employment expectations survey, down 7.5 points to
110.1 – a net 15 percent of lower income earners expect their jobs will be less secure
in a year.

Has TradeMe become just another corporate cog? Kiwis frustrated with
the site’s rising fees, among other things, are taking to an open
Facebook group named What’s Wrong with Trademe?! to voice their anger. It’s backed by local website development
company Minion Interactive, which plans to design, build
and promote a local alternative to TradeMe.
