Campbell Live! covers Gen C
By Vincent Heeringa,
Hey, Idealog’s on the telly. Or at least Gen C is on TV3. Check out this feature item from Friday June 2.
Campbell Live reporter Simon Shepherd did a really good job in covering the Gen C phenomenon on Friday night’s episode. He spoke to many of those who appeared in our first article and then some more. Of course it all looks so great with movin’ pictures and music an’ all. Must get into this broadcasting lark sometime. Meantime, check out this top feature by Simon.
Also, not sure if I’m supposed to say this, but Mikee Tocker from Loop is heading off to the US at the invitation of, get this, Earth Wind and Fire. Mikee has done a superb job and will no doubt excell in such a large market using his viral and alternative marketing techniques for niche music and film.
The TV3 item showed quite a lot of material that I’d not seen before including the stuff about the Arctic Monkeys getting their start on My Space. I never knew that. There’s quite a lot of Gen C markeing going on too, some of which I list in a former blog. I recently attended a marketing conference that was bursting with Gen C marketing stories including the incredible story of how Tequila, a US ad agency in the TBWA family, launched Playstation game Shadow of Colossus . In short, it launched the game on the web with 50 web sites, mostly blogs, all about the discovery of giant fossils - and nothing about the game or about Plastation. Tequila even created fake news stories about the uncovering of fossilised giant bones in India and Russia. The story gripped bloggers and archeology geeks around the world until it was revealed as a stunt for the new game. Even then some claimed the revelations were a cover up. It’s pretty clever and got a massive level of engagement from the audience. The game sold extremely well.
We’ll keep an eye for more Gen C material.
Also, come along to the breakfast we’re holding with Jake Pearce talking about Gen C. It’s in Auckland at the Royal Yacht Squadren 18 July and Wellington Te Papa 19 July. Click here to register . Be quick, places are limited.
