Putting the fun back into, er, infrastructure
By Matt Cooney,
From the why-didn’t-they-do-it department, the grain edit blog has a sweet collection of scans from Power Styling, a 1964 book setting out some ideas to improve the US electricity infrastructure. Pretty cool. And what did they do instead? That’s right, not much …
According to its introduction, the book's designs were a response to the challenge of producing functional, cost-effective, safe and aesthetically pleasing power structures. It's just a pity that little of it was based on technology that actually existed, then or now.
