Celebrating the best in landscape design
By Design Daily Team,
While some of the country's best design got to strut its stuff at the Best Design Awards last Friday, this week it was the turn of the landscape industry to celebrate with the 2010 Landscapes of Distinction Awards. The biennial awards—this year held in Dunedin’s Larnach Castle—celebrate excellence amongst Landscaping New Zealand members, namely professional landscapers, all of whom have been selected for their high standard of business practice and the quality of their landscaping work.
Taking out the top honour on the night was Wayne Butson of Design and Garden Landscapes, winning the 'Horizon International Landscape of the Year' award for Kunac Garden. The project also received Gold in the categories of Landscape Design, Landscape Construction and Landscape Horticulture.

Other winners include:

left: ‘NZ Gardener Best Edible Garden’ - Barker Garden by Design and Garden Landscapes Ld, Dunedin; right: ‘Lockwood Homes Best Sustainable Landscape Practice Award’ - The Parc by Natural Habitats, Auckland.

left: ‘Best Design for a Small Project Award’- Roberts-Shannon Courtyard by Gardens Realised, Auckland, right: ‘Best Design for a Large Project’ - Russell Garden by Natural Habitats, Auckland.

left: ‘Best Garden Management Award Verda Best Construction for a Large Project’ - Basset Road Garden by Second Nature, Auckland; right: ‘Water Dynamics Best Special Feature Award’ - Armadale Rd Water Feature by Second Nature, Auckland; bottom: ‘Ardmore Nurseries Best Commercial Project’ - Dyslexia Discovery Garden by Morgan and Pollard Landscapes Ltd, Christchurch.

Those past winners really did some great landscaping designs. I was hoping to see some garden arbours incorporated into the designs, but oh well, we can never ask for too much. Looking forward to see the winners this year.
