A mash-up of creativity
By Design Daily Team,
Take the creative juices of a design industry veteran and add a splash of modern rock, and what do you get? ‘MAKE SOMETHING’—a creative, genre-defining mash-up, which creeps beyond regular commercial boundaries.
Founded by graphic designer Bevan Tonks and joined by five other leading New Zealand graphic designers, MAKE SOMETHING participants have been thrown a challenge; given absolute free reign, who would you choose to work with from the creative industries and what would the results of that mash-up be?
From Fur Patrol’s Julia Dean, to a former Visual Effects producer with Oscar Winning VFX company The Mill, the collaborations blend a mix of New Zealand creative talents from across architecture, product design, fashion, music and visual effects.
This is the first exhibition in what Tonks sees will become an annual event, within Auckland and further afield.

Great idea! We need to be more open to the possibilities of interacting with other 'creatives' .
As a writer of lyrics & poetry (amongst other things) I have in the past put out feelers to artists of all types, with a view to collaborations between these genres. Every picture does tell a story, if the 'picture' in this case relates to a poem, lyric or short piece of prose, and vice versa, this can be even more appealing to the senses. I have a big enough job trying to find good songwriting collaborators! So if this stikes a chord, one way or the other, I'll be very happy.
