No scandals, just logos
By Design Daily Team,
Dodgy Tim Southee cricket scandal aside, with the 2011 Cricket World Cup opening ceremony kicking off in exactly one week’s time, now seems like a good time to take a look back at the changing Cricket World Cup logo.
Like all world cup logos, the official 2011 logo represents the culture of the hosting country. In the case of the 2011 World Cup, unveiled in July 2009, the hosting responsibilities are shared between India, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh. The shape of a colorful cricket balls is designed to represent color, activity and passion that the people in South Asia have for cricket. Twelve companies from all over the world submitted concepts for the logo, but it was Australian creative firm Witekite, who specialise in sports and major events worldwide, that got the green light.
