Tell us how you’re helping Christchurch and how others can help—UPDATED
By Deirdre Robert,
When a disaster strikes New Zealand the ability of Kiwis to unite and chip in wherever they can is made blatantly clear. Companies, organisations and individuals across the country are all doing their part, and for us here at Image Centre, that includes gathering donations for the Red Cross from all our staff.
If you want to share any actions, events, or messages, let us know and we’ll update this page to spread the word. We know the design and architecture communities are close-knit and that you will have a number of fantastic initiatives underway. DINZ have already shared a message of support, read it HERE. So please let us know what you are doing or what others can do, and let's get the message out there.
In the meantime, you can donate to the Red Cross HERE, or check out below for other ways to contribute.

Hi Deirdre,
Useful list, thanks.
People can also report non-emergency damage and problems and find out what's open in their neighbourhood in Christchurch via http://eq.org.nz (the Student Volunteer Army are connected with this great site).
What things should I report to eq.org.nz?
Things you have seen first-hand (not just heard about on the radio or Twitter) like:
- roads/tunnels/bridges/highways open/closed/blocked/damaged
- shops/ATMs/supermarkets/pharmacies that are open
- the state of welfare/triage centres & hospitals
- areas of flooding/burst pipes
- places people can access phones/internet/food/coffee/shelter/water/supplies/aid/medics
- details on what is happening with flights/transport in or out of chch
- photos, media
- accommodation
How can I report to eq.org.nz?
Text it to 5627. (It’s free on every network)
Email it to eqnzfeb@gmail.com
Post it on the site: http://eq.org.nz

Hi. We're connecting drivers and passengers who are trying to get in and out of Christchurch.
Some people are doing it tough trying to get around, there are road closures, massive lines, gridlock and it's hard to land a flight.
If anyone is driving to or from Christchurch in the coming days, offering your spare seats will help people who are stuck.
Anyone can share their spare seat, or find one, for free on Jayride, we have a page especially set up for Christchurch. Visit http://www.jayride.co.nz

Great to see that DINZ is responding to this, too.
What's also important to let the public know at this stage is the fact that the extent of damage in Christchurch won't be fully felt for many years to come - that they need our support for the long-haul, above and beyond the emergency stage.
Recognising this need, the Auckland Chapter of Architecture for Humanity has started an international campaign to raise funds for those worst affected by the disaster. We have set up groups on Facebook (http://www.facebook/nzeqfund) and actively working with partners who are coming together to organise local fundraisers.
You can find out the latest information about our activities on our website (http://afh-auckland.org/christchurch)

Hi,
We've donated our service, which is a mobile workforce and job management tool called GeoOp, to the VOLUNTEER STUDENT ARMY in Christchurch. We did this back in September too, and they found GeoOp indispensable for communicating with their mobile teams and allocating jobs all over the region.
GeoOp is really cheap and easy to set up as it utilises legacy systems (iPhones, smartphones, cellphones, computers etc).
People who need help can contact the STUDENT VOLUNTEER ARMY or visit http://www.geoop.com/volunteer-army.php and complete the form to get non-urgent assistance.
The Student Volunteer Army then mobilise and distribute their crews of people to areas in need, and track progress/jobs live, using GeoOp on their mobiles and laptops.
GeoOp is global (HQ is in Auckland) and we offer 100% free use to disaster and recovery operations in NZ, and we donate major credits for any disaster relief abroad.
Cheers, Will / http://www.geoop.com.

Help out in the medium term by supporting Christchurch business, so people don't loose their jobs or businesses on top of all the other trauma, even if delivery may take longer.
One of our corporate clients has ordered Florian bags from us which they knew were manufactured in Christchurch. They contacted us yesterday to confirm the order stood, and they expected delays in delivery. They wanted to ensure they continued to support the business (which was hit hard in the earlier earthquake).
If others want to support this company in the same way they and do so here http://www.newzealandshowcase.com/index.cfm and we will also donate $50.00 of each online purchase to the Red Cross.
eboss
At eboss we are mobilising our clients in the building industry to donate to the Red Cross, as well as architects and designers: http://www.givealittle.co.nz/cause/rebuildingchristchurch

Allaporta, along with several deliveries of water to our local boarding kennels who had none whatsoever (and were also coping with a family death -unrelated to the earthquake), cleaning out a fridge and freezer for elderly lady, and now driving for Red Cross, Allaporta is donating 5% of next 3 months sales to NZ Red Cross.
Unless the TV has got to the most affected suburbs we can first hand advise of the devastation in those areas. You can almost draw a line through the city - clean cars come from the west, dirty cars from the east.
It is humbling to see an elderly lady with no water, no power, no sewerage, set up with a gas burner, water in containers, and 'getting on with it' . I was pleased to learn during my visit she had agreed to go north to relatives. Her street, as was the rest of that tidy, “middle-class” suburb, was virtually impassable with silt.
Support us so we can help support our city!
Matt
We have a load of free accommodation and now free office space listings for people from Christchurch in need….

An online knitting group has been set up by Crafty m.e. We invite you to join us in knitting for the people of Christchurch. If you don't knit, that's ok. You can make anything you would like and we can drop everything off to the red cross to be taken down to Christchurch
We are knitting hats and scarves so that our brave friends, neighbours and relatives in Christchurch stay warm this winter. A lot of people are homeless and winter is coming up fast. Please invite everyone you know to join this group and get involved
