Auckland Harbour Bridge Pathway design in animation

Last week we featured a story about the proposed designs for a pedestrian and cycling pathway on the Auckland Harbour Bridge. But while the pictures included in the story gave a basic visual understanding of the design, the folks at Copeland Associates Architects have sent us this animation video to amp the concept design up that much more. Check it out and should you feel inclined, there’s also a quick survey you can fill out to offer your feedback on the designs.

I dont like it. Too far to walk. Haven for tramps/street kids especially at night. Upkeep too expensive. Looks ugly. What about light railway type solution is Docklands light railway in London?

What used to be a monument in its tinme is now an eyesore and embarrassment!
Stop tacking onto it & pull the bridge down!
Put up a purpose built iconic bridge that handles vehicles, trains, cyclists & pedestrians.

I like it. It's only a kilometre long, so I can't see how it could be 'too far' (@Neil) to walk. More than happy to pay a toll for its upkeep. Could look beautiful, as long as they don't theme it for any future sporting tournaments.

I love the design! though i do kind of agree with Neil about it being a haven for tramps/street kids. Could be unsafe at night. Though it's taken a similiar inspiration from the bridges in Brisbane.

I love the dynamic lighting features, can we push the lighting further so it's much more variable, and can be a feature on NYE? I would cycle it regularly, toll or no toll. I think we need to be reassured that the actually clip-on lane is secure enough itself, since cracks appeared a couple of years ago. And what is the life expectancy of the new addition? I'd love to see the design embrace the bridge legs more, it might look stronger and relate to the existing structure more.

Use your brains people, it's going to have a toll, do you think the tramps and street kids will be willing to pay? I think it looks awesome, finally Auckland is getting something unique.

Perhaps I wasn't looking hard enough but I don't see how you will enter and exit the pathway. How will you cross over the existing ramps at the Westhaven end? How will people entering from the Northern side get across the existing motorway from say Northcote? Apart from that I think its a great idea long overdue.
