The making of a sign

Signage is an element so deeply embedded into any urban environment that we tend to take it for granted. But just how are they created?
In Eye magazine, Andrew Haslam looks at the production of display lettering – in this case, hand-routing a lightbox for Specsavers.
Some signs are best done by hand, in which case an operator guides the bit around the letter outlines, to be then surface-mounted as a sheet or built into an upright 3D form.
This hot-moulded sign incorporates Perspex letters fitted into an acrylic box and illuminated internally.
