Win! The View by Spartacus R – mutants and turds a bonus
By Kate Beecroft,
You've got to give Spartacus R credit for sheer imagination.
The psychedelic prog-rock band from Wellington has a track record for presenting its music in kooky ways. One of its main gags is collaborating with artists, architects and
poets. This isn’t so they’re known for being amazing collaborators, but
so they can put on awesome shows.
This time around, they’ve worked with American filmmaker, Jacob Perkins to create a stop-start animation music video for upcoming single Mutant Musings (available for free download here).
Highlights include:
- creepy little egg mutant brought to life after a bottle of toxic ‘Windsor Gut Reviver’ falls into the pot where the egg is hard boiling.
- ‘gut revived’ mutant egg stabs his human creator in the foot with a needle and as a result is flushed down the loo.
- he floats down through the pipes to the bottom of the sea with a lot of scarily realistic (plasticine) poo. But all is not over for the freaky little guy…
Spartacus R has been together for about seven years – as member Benjamin James puts it, "we’re just mates playing together in a band".
They have released a couple of EPs and their second album out now is The View.
Much like their plasticine turds, “we want our music to be floating around in the future,” says James.
Win!
