Ordering movie snacks? There’s an app for that.
By Siobhan Leathley,
Sick and tired of punks leaving their seat and sidling their way to the end of the row, disrupting your movie?

Now the punk can stay seated if s/he wants more popcorn – MasterCard has developed an app enabling Aussies to order refreshments from a smartphone to be delivered to their seats. Choice.
QkR is only available in selected La Premier Hoyts cinemas in
Australia, where the Commonwealth Bank will pilot the service for
several weeks from January onwards.
The bank and MasterCard also collaborated on Commbank Kaching, which allows customers to use their phone to pay at checkouts.
“We are delivering what can only be described as generational change in payments technology,” said MasterCard Australia's head of market development Matt Barr.
Hoyts chief executive Delfin Fernandez said Hoyts had long embraced new technology
“For our La Premiere guests, being able to purchase a meal, dessert
or another round of drinks using QkR without missing a second of the
movie is a real luxury.”
Consumers will be able to make purchases either through scan, tap or
type – scanning a QR code to make a purchase; tapping an NFC-capable
device against the QR code on the seat or typing in the unique scan
code.
