Fly Creative and friends get artistic for Air NZ
By Siobhan Leathley,
Not many companies could say their employees all received a set of designer gifts for Christmas, but at Air New Zealand – from baggage handlers to the top brass – that's what happened last year.
Branding agency Fly Creative (which was behind the Pixels for Christchurch initiative) and local artists, Shane Hansen (featured in a previous IdealGear) and Hayley King (aka Flox), worked for six months producing the gifts.
These included a tin, a set of four frosted tumblers, tea-towel, A5 journal and children’s postcard set with stickers and magnets, with a thank you note from Air New Zealand’s CEO Rob Fyfe.
Fly Creative chose a vast range of gifts to appeal to all recipients, regardless of their role in the company.
The artists cite their inspiration as the passion, creativity and unity displayed by Air New Zealand staff.
Fly Creative has designed and produced many gifts for top Kiwi design stores and Fly Creative’s director Johnson McKay wanted to create something that would have real value.
“We wanted to change the way Air New Zealand told their staff they appreciate them. 2011 was a tough year and the staff needed to feel a sincere thank you," says McKay.

From an artistic point of view it is doubtful and probably falls into the large category of tacky kiwiana. Their staff may like it though.

Hey Adam Errington, your comment is odd. Do I sense a hint of jealousy? It seems you don't know contemporary NZ art. Shane Hansen and Flox are leading the curve. But I guess your taste is back in 1984 or something.
