A quick word with … designer Nicola Cumming

Nicola Cumming starts and ends her day with a walk in the orchard with her animals.

My first job was... trainee buyer for semi precious and costume jewellery for Milne & Choyce

And now the title on my business card is... Kitchen & Bathroom Designer

Which really means... I am a spatial designer specialising in kitchens and bathrooms which also includes other ares such as laundries, entertainment units, hobby/sewing rooms, bedroom units, wine cellars ... .any cabinetry that has to be designed then built

My day starts with... feeding my dog and cat then all walking round the orchard together

And ends with... watering the garden and a walk in the orchard with the animals

And in between, I... interact with clients, manufacturers, suppliers, other designers & research info for projects, visit trade shows and keep up to date with the market and latest products

My first artistic memory is... making decorative objects out of shells and grasses I had collected on the beach

If I wasn't doing this, I'd... be collecting interesting objects on my walks to make more things with

I'm inspired by... Nature – all the colours and textures, travel – seeing and learning new things, wonderful clients that are excited to work on new ideas – pushing their boundaries

I can't live without... my cup of tea in the morning, my husband Keith, family and friends

True 'style' is... Discerning, timeless, character

My work in three words is... Listening, designing, executing
