Escada taps Kelly Thompson to brand new perfume

kelly thompson escada born in paradise perfume packaging brand illustrationNew Zealander Kelly Thompson is the illustrator behind the packaging for Escada’s S/S14 scent Born in Paradise, and it’s a beaut example of her striking yet somehow delicate visual signature style.

Melbourne-based Thompson was first approached to pitch for the Escada project in late 2011. She was working at Jacky Winter as an account manager, fitting in work for the Born in Paradise pitch at nights. Exhausting as that schedule was, it was a thrill, Thompson said on her blog.

“I was supplied with a moodboard, keywords and imagery for inspiration, along with the information about how the packaging would work. The image created had to look attractive from all sides of the box, but it also had to work across various other media and applications such as magazine press, various online banner sizing, P.O.S displays in stores, and merchandise – a lot of things to consider when planning one image!”

Born in Paradise is a fruity, summery scent inspired by the pina colada and the finished imagery reflects that stylistically, with tropical hues and motifs taking centre stage. Thompson has outlined the design process on her own blogcomplete with early pencil sketches and subsequent development – check it out.
