Urban Kai’s grand vision for a new Wellington food ecosystem

According to the team behind Urban Kai, Wellington is in need of a better and more sustainable food ecosystem.

Their PledgeMe campaign is raising funds to set up the first step in the process: Kai Cycle, a composting scheme that would collect scraps from residents and small businesses, to be turned into rich compost that will then serve to grow organic produce, which in turn can be sold on.

Diverting food scraps from landfill is the beginning; the end goal is to create an urban farm in Wellington, supplying local produce to cafes, restaurants and the wider community, while also providing educational opportunities through farm tours, school visits and workshops.

They reckon the closed loop food system will cost about $15,000 to get off the ground. urban kai kai cycle crowdfunding pledgeme
