App review: Analytics on hand

There are a bunch of apps that let you use Google Analytics on the go, including the tech giant’s own official apps for the product.

Velyoo’s offering Dashboard for Google Analytics focuses on goals, metrics and real-time data, in the free version at least. Once you’ve set up you profile (the app caters for unlimited Analytics accounts) it’s easy to see key information at a glance, which is what you’ll likely need if you’re catching a glimpse when you’re away from the office.

The dashboard is configurable and colour coded, showing key metrics like visits, visitors, page views and goal conversions. This data can also be viewed as a graph against your target values by day, week or month.

That’s handy for making comparisons over previous periods. Analytics is compelling for the ability to see how your site is performing in real time and we can imagine this app fuelling that addiction, although you can only see this data for five minutes at a time. If you want more in-depth analysis you can upgrade to the Pro version for $6.49.

That has more than 80 Analytics reports including traffic by country, language, city, new vs. returning visits, type of browser and operating system used, custom variables, referrals, campaigns, search keywords, AdWords and social traffic, content pages, site search and events.

You can also use the app to segment reports according to pre-set KPIs by tapping a particular metric on the dashboard.
