Biz Dojo shows Wellington creatives the love with Blank Canvas

There’s a new home on the horizon for creative types in the capital as the Biz Dojo sets up a new collaborative workspace project called Blank Canvas. It’s aptly named because the organisation is calling on potential users to have their say on the design and how the space runs.

The space will have the capacity to support up to 200 creatives, tech startups and entrepreneurs, with workshops starting this week.

“Marrying the ideas of coworking and activity-based work environments, this is the first project in New Zealand to investigate how to harness the positive effects of both philosophies to the benefit of our residents,” says project team member Ella Gordon Latty. “The idea is that the space becomes a physical manifestation of the community and culture existing inside it, instead of the other way round. The space becomes a cultural asset.”

Biz Dojo has teamed with furniture maker Europlan to help design the space. Wellington-based community manager Katherine Field and Biz Dojo co-founder Nick Shewring have been developing the idea of the last couple of years.

“It’s our way of responding to the market needs in Wellington around a dedicated environment for creative entrepreneurs, digital startups and tech companies and cool people doing cool stuff,” says Shewring. “We want people to shape something that reflects the needs of the local community.”

Biz Dojo will hold a number of workshops around how the space will function and meet the current and future needs.
