Kea events a springboard for global impact

Kea, the association for Kiwi expats, has teamed with Google in a bid to gain profile in markets where it’s less represented.

The organisation is taking its World Class Inspire Days to Tokyo, Sydney, Singapore and Bangkok after holding them in New Zealand for the past six years. The events will be held at Google sites in these cities.

The connection with Google came about through talks with Richard Suhr, a New Zealander and a director for Google JAPAC in Enterprise Geospatial. 150 New Zealanders work for Google worldwide, which meant they were keen to be a part of something that showcased New Zealand’s talent, says Kea.

Kea is planning a range of other events like a workshop for New Zealanders doing business in Australia, an event with Microsoft discussing big data and a meetup in Chicago around the time the All Blacks play USA.

This year the Inspire Days toured the main centres with World Class NZ speakers including Dr Murray Brennan, who lives in New York, Kiwi Landing Pad board member Craig Elliott and Dr Catherine Mohr, director of California’s Media Research at Intuitive Surgical.

The objective of the overseas events is to grow the Kea network and hunt for possible World Class New Zealanders. Kea is also aiming to understand the challenges and opportunities each of the international markets poses to New Zealand businesspeople.
