Shyft competition hands over car design to local talent

Want to see your designs driven around Wellington?

Carshare co-op Shyft is looking for artists and designers to enter its competition to design the entire outside of the company’s first two 2014 Prius C hatchbacks, which will be based in suburbs Oriental Bay and the Terrace.

The brief calls for the design to be themed around one of two ideas: encapsulating the atmosphere of the Wellington community, or providing a design that brings energy, beauty and escapism to the street the car will reside in.

The winners will see their signed works on the cars, and receive a shyft membership to the value of $750. Entries close August 10, and Designworks CEO Sven Baker will help judge the competition.

Shyft plans to place cars for hire around the capital for up to $15 per hour. The shyft team raised more than $15,000 during its Pledge Me campaign in May, and were helped by the Wellington City Council’s Smart Energy Challenge which supports community-led projects designed to reduce emissions.

Surf, design, travel – these are the things that gets Leigh out of bed every morning (those, and a piping hot cup of milky tea). She holds qualifications in both fashion design and communications, and has written a bunch of fashion, beauty, food, travel and design stories.
