Brand is as brand does: Marty Neumeier wants to shake up the way business does business

Marty Neumeier, best-selling author, designer and renowned business adviser, is on a mission to “revolutionise the way business does business in the 21st century”. And you can find out how he plans on doing that at an event on Friday 29 August where he will share his insights on modern brands and the importance of being credible in an age of transparency. 

Neumeier began as a communication designer back in 1973, picking up writing, strategy, management and publishing skills along the way. His first company, Neumeier Design Team, took on a wide variety of brand communication projects during its 30 year history, from annual reports and brand identities to corporate ad campaigns and retail packaging. And in 1996 it put that knowledge into print form, launching Critique, the magazine of design thinking. 

In 2003, he launched a think tank called Neutron to address the gulf between business management and design thinking. And he’s written two bestsellers on that subject, The Brand Gap (2003) and Zag (2006). In 2009 he released a third book, The Designful Company, which was about how business leaders can build a culture of nonstop innovation. And his latest two books are Metaskills, a manifesto of creative mastery in the 21st century, and The 46 Rules of Genius, a concise guide to the principles of innovation.

Neutron eventually merged with brand experience agency Liquid Agency and Neumeier currently works as director of transformation, which means he helps some of the world’s most amazing companies become even more amazing and tries to turn them from being “fast followers” to true leaders in their categories.
