LinkedIn launches one-click button for jobhunters

Professional networking site LinkedIn has launched a new plugin designed to make the job application as easy as clicking a button.

Actually, that's more or less how it works.

Companies can now add an 'Apply with LinkedIn' button to job postings on their websites. Clicking on the button allows users to apply directly using their LinkedIn profile.

They can then edit their details and see any professional connections they have at the company. Alternatively, suggestions for contacts who can introduce them to someone there will be thrown up.

"This is extremely powerful—statistics show that referrals are the #1 source of external hires at companies," writes technical product manager Jonathan Seitel.

Just as on regular job-seeking sites, all applications will be saved under LinkedIn's Jobs tab, so users have a record of positions they've applied to.

"Our goal with Apply with LinkedIn is to help every professional put their best foot forward, anywhere across the web," says Seitel.

Netflix and Photobucket are among the thousand-odd companies that have already debuted the button, which only requires a few lines of code to implement. LinkedIn says it will partner with many more to do the same.

“There’s a lot of emotion and anxiety in applying for a job,” Adam Nash, vice-president of product management, tells VentureBeat. “We’re making it possible to put your best foot forward with a greatly simplified process that lowers that anxiety.”

Seitel says he's confident companies will see interest from higher-quality candidates as a result.

Businesses can customise the plugin, he says, which also integrates with many popular application tracking systems.
