Godzone gets the nod on the country branding front
By Idealog,
The land of the long white cloud is officially the third strongest country brand in the world behind Canada and Switzerland, as judged by the seventh annual FutureBrand Country Brand Index (CBI).
The index assessed the perceptions of 113 nations on five measures to ascertain what makes a country's brand powerful and unique.
New Zealand received some of the highest scores in the index for countries with populations below 10 million and leads the rankings in terms of perceptions of natural beauty and authenticity of heritage and culture.
Meanwhile, at the annual Viagens e Turismo tourism awards in Rio de Janeiro, New Zealand was voted the top global eco-tourism destination, beating Machu Picchu and Pattagonia among others.
Lonely Planet's Best in Travel 2012 has also announced Queenstown and the Southern Lakes region among the world's Top 10 recommended regions to visit.
Tourism New Zealand's chief executive Kevin Bowler said the awards recognised "all the great things about New Zealand that we profile to the world".
"Such acknowledgements give us confidence that our marketing activity and strategy are on track."

So if this is our biggest asset, lets NOT mine it for short term gains! Future mining contracts = shooting ourselves in both feet.

we all know how attractive our country is as a tourist destination and lifestyle choice and a big part of this is teh “green and clean ” image. But this is actually slowly slipping away, we are not as green as we think. As a country we have to do a whole lot more in order to retain that claim and leverage it in the future.
this should be on the 6pm news so that the general public knows about it and starts caring how we look after this beautiful country. without awareness, the public cant influence policy makers and government to put initiatives and policies in place to make sure we can continue to be a beautiful country.
very interesting so close before elections. would have been good to have these results earlier and probe our leaders about what they intend to do in this regard.

Does anyone watch the TV news any more?
I thought they read blogs and niche titles?

If we're going to leverage this eco reputation asset for real benefit let's look beyond tourism, which Paul Callaghan will tell you is a low value industry. Loads of green tech and science opportunities waiting for Kiwis to grab them - curious to see how the Pure Advantage team start to incubate and accelerate this.
