Tsk is tops at Christchurch Startup Weekend
More than 70 entrepreneurs made it through the inaugural Christchurch Startup Weekend – but the ultimate winner was team Tsk with an idea for an online social job market.
Tsk is a web and mobile app for busy people looking to outsource anything from handyperson tasks, dog walking, haircuts, and anything else you can think of.
Those wanting to make money doing the tasks can register with Tsk and be notified of new gigs.
Tsk chief executive Tim Hatherley-Greene (24), says Christchurch needs a kickstart that comes from the community, and Tsk offers an easy way for people to find the help they need doing any task imaginable.
“We’re ramping up this business, we plan to make it into a going concern, and we hope to make our mark on Christchurch and beyond.”
More than 70 budding entrepreneurs converged on Christchurch’s Westpac Hub to pitch their initial ideas, forming teams around the top 10. They then spent the entire weekend developing their ideas, creating prototypes, business models, and doing market research to validate their concepts.
The finalists pitched to judges Marc Nager (global co-founder of the international Startup Weekend model), Steve Hampson, managing partner of incubation and venture capital house powerHouse, and MYOB’s business division sales manager Scott Gardiner.
Twenty mentors specialising in different fields of technology and business were on the scene to help the entrepreneurs through the weekend.
The Christchurch weekend was one of 10 being held around the world at the same time.
Nager said the Christchurch event was a special occasion for him.
“If there is one city that is in the perfect space for entrepreneurship, it’s Christchurch, and I was blown away by the quality and passion of the large number of people who turned out.”
