A couple of months back we attended Fisher & Paykel’s Social Kitchen as part of the Urbis Design Day celebrations. The Social Kitchen was a collaborative design process between Engine Room restaurant chefs, design agency Alt Group and furniture designer Sam Haughton and his team at IMO furniture design. And it seems Haughon’s furniture designs, namely his colourful ‘A2’ stool, made quite the impression, with the designer winning the top spot at Home magazine’s New Zealand Design Awards, which were held last night to honour the best in new furniture designs.

There’s a number of very cool events taking place across Auckland City as part of Urbis Design Day and, lucky us, last week we got a sneak peak of one event that blends tasty design and curious food combinations around the social centerpiece that is the kitchen.
