To say the Auckland Council doesn’t always get it right when it comes to protecting our heritage buildings isn’t presumptuous. You need only look at the furore that broke out earlier this year when Turua Street’s Spanish style Art Deco cottages were demolished despite massive protests and court appeals. But now the Council is seeking expressions of interest for its new Heritage Advisory Panel which the Council says will provide independent advice on heritage issues to council decision makers.
