  • Building sustainably becomes concrete yet again for Peddle Thorp Architects

    It may not be much to look at and you might not think it an overly sustainable product, but where would construction be without good ‘ole concrete? Recently the Cement and Concrete Association of New Zealand held its 2011 Concrete3 Sustainability Awards, celebrating those that do it best when it comes to the sustainable use of concrete in building. This year the top award went to Peddle Thorp Architects for its work revitalising the multi-storey office building at 21 Queen Street, Auckland, preserving its concrete frame and core while creating vibrant and thoroughly modern spaces both inside and out.

    Blending commercial needs with sustainable building principles can prove very successful, as Peddle Thorp Architect's double win at the 2011 New Zealand Architecture Awards demonstrate. The firm won awards in both the Sustainability and Commercial categories, something it says shows a significant shift in thinking taking place in international commercial architecture.
