We’ve always been a fan of Massey University student Roseanne de Bruin’s quirky and environmentally friendly smoothie maker, the aptly titled Smoobo mixer. De Bruin crafted her design as part of the 2011 Electrolux Design Lab challenge, which tasked undergraduate and graduate industrial design students to “present innovative ideas for household appliances of the future". Having made it to the top eight, the only Kiwi to do so, de Bruin’s concept has earned her third place in the global competition, impressively fending off more than 1,300 entries from more than 50 countries in the process.

Who knew innovation could look (and taste) so good? After last month announcing three Kiwi students had made it to the top 25 of the global Electrolux Design Lab competition, the good news keeps coming—for one of the entrants at least.
